Top guy is our Muz. The Salvation Army enlisted Pete's help to broaden the profile of this year's Red Shield Appeal, and today, Pete and Sony BMG announced that they will provide the Red Shield Appeal with a donation of 50 cents for each copy sold of Pete's forthcoming Opportunity EP. Get it this Saturday, March 11.

Pete has also volunteered to perform 'Opportunity' at some special Appeal launches next month and has donated use of the song as the backing music for a forthcoming promotional film to help raise community awareness about this worthy cause.

Finally, Pete will provide opportunities for Red Shield Appeal collectors to be on hand at all of his concerts during his April/May national Opportunity Tour.

"We are thrilled to have Pete Murray's involvement in this year's Red Shield Appeal" says Major Neil Dickson, Territorial Appeals Director of The Salvation Army.

"The life affirming sentiment of 'Opportunity' sits perfectly with the message we want to give people which is one of hope. Last year The Salvos helped over one million Australians through our wide range of programs which include support for families in need, people who are homeless, young people in crisis, food and support for disadvantaged families, to name but a few.

"Pete's profile along with the very generous donation of 50 cents from CD sales of the 'Opportunity' EP will only help strengthen the focus on these important issues and initiatives in our society."

Pete says he's more than happy to be helping out the Salvos.

"The help The Salvation Army provides to those less fortunate in our community is extremely important. I was involved in youth work before I became a musician, so I know from personal experience the huge difference that organisations such as The Salvo's can make to street kids, the homeless and the disadvantaged. They really can help people to turn their lives around," he says.

"It therefore just seemed perfect to associate 'Opportunity' - a song about making positive choices in your life - with an organisation such as The Salvos."

People wishing to donate to the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal should ring the new national hotline number 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) or visit www.salvationarmy.org.au

The Opportunity EP is released this Saturday, March 11 and includes three new and exclusive B-sides - 'Empty', 'Unfinished' and 'Sinner' - as well as the title track.

Pete's Opportunity Tour also begins in Adelaide on April 7 and runs through until May 2 in Brisbane. Get all the dates here.
